ABOUT

Julene Johnson has enjoyed a varied career studying neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., Alzheimer's disease), performing on the flute, and exploring artistic expression.

She received her bachelor's degree in flute performance from Southern Methodist University where she studied with Claire Johnson.  She also received flute instruction from Mary Louise Poor and Adrienne Nagel, a former student of James Galway.  She played in the World Youth Symphony Orchestra at the Interlochen National Music Camp.

After becoming intrigued by the brain, Julene completed a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience.

Julene currently resides in San Francisco, California.  From 2003-2005, she performed in the Johnson-Niebauer Flute and Guitar Duo with Scott Niebauer.  They found their passion in 20th-century Latin American composers, such as Piazzola, Pujol & Machado.  They performed throughout the San Francisco bay area.
